11.Guatemala
Guatemala is well-known for a high crime rate, but this is not the only reason this Central American country made it to our list. Its location and topography makes Guatemala prone to at least three types of devastating natural disasters: earthquakes, hurricanes, and mudslides. In 1976, for example, a 7.5-magnitude earthquake killed 23,000 people here.On August 21, 1986, in a valley in northwestern Cameroon, some 1,700 people and 3,500 animals suddenly dropped dead for no apparent reason. Scientists later discovered that Lake Nyos, sitting above the valley in the crater of a dormant volcano, had, over many years, slowly absorbed the carbon dioxide emitted by the magma far below it

Among these is Lake Afrera, which has thick saline crusts on its banks. The area is flanked toward the east by the Danakil Alps, a tabular mountain system that has a few volcanic cones which peak in height in Mount Ramlo (2,130 metres (7,000 ft)). A deposit of salt up to 800 metres (2,600 ft) thick can also be found in the Salt Plain flatlands. Other local lakes include Lake Asale (116 metres (381 ft) below sea level) and Lake Giuletti/Afrera (80 metres (260 ft) below sea level), both of which possess cryptodepressions in the Danakil Depression. The Afrera contains many active volcanoes, including the Maraho, Dabbahu, Afdera and Erta Ale.

Many old lava flows are on its flanks and the last known eruption, before recent times, occurred in the year 1600.[8] Solfataric activities (cracks where steam, gas, and lava are emitted) were last observed at the summit in 1912; recent documented events include an eruption in the early hours of 29 August 2010 and eruptions in September and November 2013, Eruptions occur here very frequently, often leaving thousands of people without shelter or livelihood. Many nearby towns and villages have been completely covered in lava and ash several times, most recently in 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. Sadly, dozens of people have already been killed in the eruptions.
9.Skeleton Coast, Namibia
Located along the Atlantic coast of Namibia, the Skeleton Coast has a reputation of being one of the most inhospitable and deadliest natural places on Earth. This extreme piece of land got its name from whale and seal skeletons scattered all over the area; many people (mainly shipwrecked sailors) have died here too due to the local harsh environment. On the coast the upwelling of the cold Benguela current gives rise to dense ocean fogs (called "cassimbo" by the Angolans) for much of the year. The winds blow from land to sea, rainfall rarely exceeds 10 millimetres (0.39 in) annually and the climate is highly inhospitable. There is a constant, heavy surf on the beaches. In the days before engine-powered ships and boats, it was possible to get ashore through the surf but impossible to launch from the shore. The only way out was by going through a marsh hundreds of miles long and only accessible via a hot and arid desert.

The surrounding bedrock is composed of alkaline, sodium-dominated trachyte lavas that were laid down during the Pleistocene period. The lavas have significant amounts of carbonate but very low calcium and magnesium levels. This has allowed the lake to concentrate into a caustic alkaline brine. So it is degerous for all kind of creatures.

20.Lake Nyos, Cameroon
Situated in Northwestern Cameroon, Lake Nyos sits on area of volcanic activity where carbon dioxide leaks from beneath the ground. During a “limnic eruption,” the carbon dioxide bursts out from the bottom of the lake to form a deadly cloud. Because the gas is heavier than air, it descends, pushing oxygen away and suffocating any life in the area. Two eruptions in the 1980’s killed over 1,700 people and 3,500 livestock in the area. The eruption triggered the sudden release of about 100,000–300,000 tons (some sources state as much as 1.6 million tons) of CO2. This gas cloud rose at nearly 100 kilometres per hour (62 mph) and spilled over the northern lip of the lake. It then rushed down two valleys, branching off to the north, displacing all the air and suffocating people and livestock within 25 kilometres (16 mi) of the lake.
A degassing system has since been installed at the lake, with the aim of reducing the concentration of CO2 in deep waters and therefore the risk of further eruptions.
